Brochure - not a book

Upon receipt I hurried to find Amazon's return policy. The pages are numbered up to 34 but the text starts on page 8, and, 10 of the pages have only one sentence in huge font. It is olive growing in Australia, 2002. It provides minimal basic, usable information.

The tile of the book should make clear the book is about growing olives in Australia.
Some of the information is basic and would apply anywhere but there is a lot of locale specific information.

I was looking for information on growing olives in the US so this book was a disappoiintment.
Otherwise it is an easy to understand, simple and well written. It is written in a text-book style and is about 40 pages of large font print.

Superficial dribble

The idea that this glorified pamphlet is masquerading as a "book" on growing olives is, at best, absurd. Mostly it is offensive. There is no substantive information in book. Sections like "legal and administrative issues" contain two or three sentences on subtopics like 'tax' (there might be some... but there might not. You should determine this.) 'business plan' (you should have one if you plan on starting a business).

15 minutes on the web would give you more information than this "book" does. (and its NOT a book. it is like 25 pages of large font around a bunch of color photos of the author and his farm. bah.) This pamphlet is titled "Growing Olives: Information on setting up your own olive growing enterprise." That title is only true in the most general sense. (the same way reading the back of a box of cereal could be titled "Information on growing and creating your own wheat and oat enterprise.)

Even if you were not interested in the nuts and bolts of growing olives and selling them and you were just interested in the author's experience as a farmer, the pamphlet fails you.

stay away. You've been warned.

Great sequel!

I must admit that my enthusiasm for this series initially derived from the enthusiasm that Tia expressed about it on her blog! So I went into the first book knowing that Tia intended it for teens and adults alike, and I really enjoyed reading it. Even though it's focused on teens, there was never a point at which I wanted to put it down. Maybe because I have Tangie's hair, maybe because when I get a blow out, I too worry about sweating out my roots! But there are many things that adults can relate to in this series, so it just works.

Tia, true to all her writing , stays engaging in Sixteen Candles, like in It Chicks. This is a very quick and fun read. The characters continue to develop and become more 'real' than in the first book. But why was I listening to Mariah Carey during the CJ - Tangie scene at the end of the book, so I teared up!!!!!!?? (had to laugh at myself on that one)

The only problem here is that it seems that the copy editors spaced out periodically through the book... Or did they?? For example, at the end, a new character is first introduced as Corey then later referred to by a different name...

But maybe that's just to make sure you read the third book...

I have been reading this book for a graduate level ...

I have been reading this book for a graduate level course. I would say Brown and Lee do not provide enough examples of concepts they are talking about, specifically in the Speaking, Reading, Listening portions of their book. They are also oddly non-specific in the boxes meant to expound more on a concept mentioned in the paragraph above it. This book leaves something to be desired but is an interesting read regarding pedagogy and why we should or shouldn't teach a certain way.

A good resource for new ESL teachers

A good resource for new ESL teachers. I'm not new and so I used this recent edition to compare to an earlier one; there wasn't much difference when I compared the two sections I was interested in, but it's a good idea to purchase the most recent edition of an ESL textbook if it's available for just a few dollars more.

This book is full of a lot of 'obvious' information about ESL teaching 'theory'.
It is dry, boring, and hard to read through.

The only reason I'm using it is because the professor requires it for class.

I'm glad I rented this book rather than buying it because I would never keep
this book once I've finished the class.

It provides a critical overview of the alchemical tradition in twentieth-century art, and of the use of occultist imagery as a code for political discourse and polemical engagement. The study is the first to examine the influence of alchemy and the Surrealist tradition on Australian as well as on Eastern European and Mexican art. In addition, the text considers the manner in which women artists such as Leonora Carrington, Remedios Varo, and Rebecca Horn have critically revised the traditional sexist imagery of alchemy and occultism for their own feminist purposes.
